Yirgacheffe, in southern Ethiopia’s Sidamo region, is probably the most famous coffee growing area in the world, renowned for complex and vibrant coffees. This washed coffee smells like dried red fruits, citrus and vanilla biscuit and tastes of tea, lemon zest, spiced cookies and floral notes with a nutty caramel afterglow. Grown by smallholders between 1700 and 2200 metres above sea level.

JOIN THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY We provide jars and get them back to clean and refill with coffee at your convenience (eg left in letterbox on next order). The system is based on goodwill, a bit of organisation and the ample jars already in circulation in our world of plenty. We are always keen to upcycle your 700ml plus jars - Raglan coconut yogurt and big gherkin jars are good (please no previous contents other than food)- to join our fleet of waste-busters. For tea we are also after 250ml jars with wide lids (82mm). Jars hold 250g of coffee so if, for example, you order 1kg of coffee in swappa jar it will come in 4 jars. Jars keep your coffee (especially if ground) fresher for longer. Only available for Rotorua customers.

If you can't be bothered with all that jar upcycling stuff or are getting your coffee through the post, feel free to order in bags. Like most of these things, there tends to be a convenience/cost/impact trade off. Our paper bags are very simple and low impact. They don't contain fancy valves, plastic liners (plant-based or otherwise) or snazzy tin ties to reseal them. This means that they break down easy in your compost and are a good for lighting fires. It also means they do a lousy job of looking after your coffee. They won't keep it dry or particularly fresh. We recommend putting your coffee in an airtight container straight away. It is also ideal if there is a safe dry place to deliver to.
